For now I’ll show you the thing I made this evening which was inspired from that drawing. Yes, it is abit confusing but anyway:

I drew this straight onto a 20cmx20cm canvas with a black Sharpie pen. Some permanent markers don’t do very well when you try and use them straight onto cheaper primed canvasses as this one is, but this pen seemed to be okay.
You will see next to the canvas that I had doodled over a pottery bottle but I messed that up and ended up chucking it in the bin. Let’s not talk about that shall we and move on… :)

I knew I wanted to use pastel colours for this piece as I like the way pastels look with the contrast of black and white. Here I have already mixed up a tiny bit of Rose Madder acryclic with Titanium White and painted in the flowers:

I Did a Doodle Bomb

I’m getting fed up of advertisers telling me that I need to be perfect, have flawless skin and not have grey hair in the hope that I will buy all their stupid chemicals.

Perfection is Not Possible

So when Doodlers Anonymous brought out their 13th showcase for doodlers called Doodle Bomb this week, I was delighted when I realised it was to open whoop-ass on the print advertising industry!

Ever since I decided that I was going to make what I truly enjoy, I decided to unleash my very own folk art on the world!

I am mad for all kinds of folk art! I especially love Indian folk art flower motifs, European (particularly Swedish) folk art design, English enamel folk art, Russian Matryoshkas and I really dig the colours that are used in Mexican folk art!

For me, folk art is about people expressing important stuff whilst making everything look amazing!

It was traditionally made by peasants and craftspeople who were not trained as artists, but who drew, painted, and decorated their way through life with their use of lovely motifs and patterns.
Historians and anthropologists often study folk arts and crafts from times gone by in order to gain insight into indigenous peoples.

Usually, motifs are in a ‘naive’ style and depict what is very important to that particular culture, such as their favourite animals and food as well as designs about love, home and family.

I very much look forward to bringing you my own take on folk art by mixing new and traditional hand drawn motifs along with my sayings and poems, all using fab contemporary colours!
